21-22.02 Mosaic Frame

Class Description: These unusual frames have hung in my studio for years, and never fail to get compliments from visitors. In this class you will use polymer clay and mica powders to create an unusual keepsake. This project utilizes many items that you probably have at home, and you might want to incorporate many items from your “stash” to make the project truly unique.

Materials Kit: Wooden picture frame, fluffy brush, selection of mica powders. Choose from two colorways: dark with gold or light with silver. (Contact instructor for choice.)

Required Tools:  

  • Rolling spacers approx. 10 mm high. (these can be wooden slats, playing cards taped together, etc)
  • 3 blocks of polymer clay, either black or white.
  • Acrylic paint, black or white.
  • Dedicated craft rolling pin, like a piece of PVC pipe.
  • Working surface such as a glazed ceramic tile.
  • Rubber stamps, texture plates and/or an assortment of household objects to make clay impressions.
  • Small spray bottle with water
  • Craft glue
  • Tissue blade or a ruler and scalpel
  • Small container with olive oil
  • Paper towels
  • Dedicated baking sheet
  • Kitchen oven
  • Assorted items from your crafting stash: silicone molds, some beads, charms, etc.

*Note: Kit only and extra kit options do not include instructions or recording. You must choose either a Zoom or Zoom/Kit combo to receive written instructions. Kits will begin to ship Oct. 5, 2022, unless otherwise arranged with instructor.
