Pre-requisite: Familiarity with metal clay.

Class Description: This unusual brooch has the elegant look of a by-gone era. Using silicone molds of vintage brass stampings you will construct and decorate the body of the brooch, which highlights a large, emerald-cut fireable cubic zirconia stone in your choice of color. Learn how to set a large stone decoratively and securely, as well as how to use an embeddable brooch finding.

Materials Kit: Fine silver metal clay, metal clay paste, two silicone molds, embeddable brooch finding, emerald-cut fireable stone, choice of color.

Required Tools:  

  • Basic Metal clay tool kit
    • roller, 10 playing cards, scalpel, tissue blade, fine paintbrush, fluffy paintbrush, sanding sponges and straight salon boards (nail file) of different grits, cup of water, cup of olive oil, piece of Saran wrap/cling film.
  • “Snake roller”: small pieces of glass or plexiglass. A CD cover or microscope slide will work.
  • Pin vise with 5 mm twist drill bit
  • Very small tube cutter (3 or 4 mm) or ball point pen without the cartridge. 
  • Drying set up, such as a mug warmer, food dehydrator or kitchen oven.
  • Liver of sulfur patina
