Class Description: In this class you will make a beautiful sculpted flower that can be made into either a pendant or a ring. The center of the ring features a sparkling gemstone of your choice. Learn how to size rings correctly, how to make a beautiful bale for a pendant and how to firmly anchor an embeddable setting for your stone. Your kit will include a fireable 5mm gemstone, but you can also use any non-fireable faceted 5mm gemstone and insert it post-firing.

Materials Kit: Fine silver metal clay, metal clay paste. Embeddable stone setting, 5 mm fireable cubic zirconia (instructor will contact you for color choice).

Required Tools:  

  • Basic Metal clay tool kit
    • roller, 10 playing cards, scalpel, tissue blade, fine paintbrush, fluffy paintbrush, sanding sponges and straight salon boards (nail file) of different grits, cup of water, cup of olive oil, piece of Saran wrap/cling film.
  • “Snake roller”: small pieces of glass or plexiglass. A CD cover or microscope slide will work.
  • Needle tool
  • Circle template or round cookies cutter set
  • Fine-tipped chainnose pliers.
  • Optional: One fresh leaf with prominent veins
  • For a ring: ring mandrel, teflex strip or post-it note, pencil, scotch tape, ring sizer.
  • For a pendant: piece of a drinking straw, approx. 1”.
  • Optional: any additional 5mm faceted gemstones
  • Drying set up, such as a mug warmer, food dehydrator or kitchen oven.
  • Liver of sulfur patina
