Class Description: Do you remember lying under a tree in summer and watching the dappled shadows dance across the grass?
The sparkle of water droplets on a hidden spidersweb, and other secrets reveals as you changed your perspective, or the light moved with the wind in the leaves.
In this class we’ll be creating a pierced dome to hide the beautiful secret stone within- hidden under the dappled shadows.
Design, piercing, soldering, setting and polishing are all techniques we will be addressing in class, so bring your inner child and their imagination to play Under the Dappled Sky.
Project Completion: students will have enough time to finish during live class.
Materials Kit: sterling silver stock, teardrop cabochon (selection will be provided at a later time).

- Chain nose pliers
- Side cutters
- Multi-looping pliers
- Flex shaft
- Flex shaft bits: mixed pack of sandpaper rolls- 220-1000 grit
- Hand punch (any size)
- Solder pick
- Bench block
- Chasing hammer
- Rawhide mallet
- Student files
- Needle files
- Bezel shears
- Jewelers’ saw
- Saw blades (4/o and 6/o)
- Cut lube or Bee’s wax
- Bench pin
- Steel dap set
- Magnifying glasses (as needed)
- Basic soldering set up: butane torch (not micro torch), butane, solder board or the like, tripod with mesh, pickle, fire tweezers, quench bowl, flux, copper tongs, silver wire solder: Hard, Med. Easy.
*Note: Kit only and extra kit options do not include instructions or recording. You must choose either a Zoom or Zoom/Kit combo to receive written instructions. Kits will begin to ship April 11, 2023, unless otherwise arranged with instructor.
