Instructor: Yin Guang

Skill Level: Confident Beginner

Class Description: Working with wire has always fascinated me, and I’m excited to explore how stiff wire can be combined with soft fabric—2.5 mm flat soutache—to create a puff spiral braid. In this class, you’ll learn to work with both wire and soutache within the traditional 8‑strand Kongoh gumi technique—from arranging them in the correct positions to executing the braid. By the end of the session, you’ll understand how changing the thickness of the cords can produce beautifully distorted braid effects, and you’ll have the opportunity to experiment with wire braiding on your own.

Project Completion: Students who work quickly will finish the project during class time.

Materials Kit: Wire (silver or gold plated), cords, clasp, pendant.
