Class Description: Anodizing with a sponge will magically make niobium beautiful with anodized color. The color is both random and chosen by a combination of the voltage of the electric current created with 9-volt batteries and “painting” with a natural sponge applicator.

Project Completion: students will have enough class time to complete project.

Materials Kit: 2 precut 1” circles, 1”x2” 26ga. niobium sheet, 4 pairs of ear wires, anodizing tape, natural sponge, 3M sanding pad, cathode strip, “anodizing powder”.

Required Tools:  

  • 12, 9-V batteries
  • 2 alligator to alligator test leads
  • A plastic container to mix your powder with water
  • Stencils
  • Finepoint Sharpie
  • Needle files/hand files
  • Metal shears
  • Exacto knife with #11 blade

*Note: Kit only and extra kit options do not include instructions or recording. You must choose either a Zoom or Zoom/Kit combo to receive written instructions. Kits will begin to ship April 3, 2024, unless otherwise arranged with instructor.
