Skill Level: Intermediate
Pre-requisite: Student must be confident with a butane torch, and be proficient with all hand tools.
Class Description: This is a fun earring class with a surprising array of different techniques packed into the one project. We will be depletion gilding, reticulating, forming, setting, and soldering and designing our project for both function and beauty, so join me at your bench, and get ready to play!
Torch: Instructor will be demonstrating using an Orca torch. Any medium strength Butane will do. Micro torches aren’t always hot enough for this class.
Project Completion: students will have enough class time to finish the project.
Materials Kit: Silver stock, cubic zirconia, copper stock.

- Sharpie
- Chain nose pliers
- Round nose
- Multi-looping pliers
- Wire cutters (flush)
- Fine tweezers
- Metal shears
- Brass brush
- Metal ruler 6”
- Center punch
- Flex shaft
- Flex shaft bits: Polishing buffs, HSS drillbit any size big enough for a saw blade.
- Bench block
- Goldsmith hammer or riveting hammer
- Rawhide mallet or Nylon mallet
- Chasing hammer
- Needle files
- Divider
- Jewelers’ saw
- Saw blades (4/o)
- Cut lube or bees wax
- Bench pin
- Setting burnishers or prong pusher
- Shallow dapping block (an oval, wooden one works well here) and nylon or wood dapping pins
- Third hand
- Magnifying glasses (as needed)
- Disc cutter

- Soldering set up: solder board, tripod with mesh, pickle, fire tweezers, quench bowl, flux, copper tongs, silver solder sheet or chip: Hard, Medium, Easy.
