Pre-requisite: Must be prepared with a finish enameled "cabochon" for setting. If you do not have enamel experience you must complete the Enameled Dragonfly class.
Class Description: Unlock the potential of your enameled creations with our class on crafting a shadow box style setting in sterling silver, designed specifically for an enameled dragonfly. This course covers essential techniques in prong and tube setting, providing you with the skills to create striking statement jewelry. Perfect for those looking to elevate their jewelry design with innovative settings.
HYBRID Option: This option is for in-person participation. Tools will be provided to share during class time. Recordings will also be provided. **Please note, Hybrid options are inclusive of kit. Location: Northside Artist Loft, 229 Irving Ave N, Unit 102, Minneapolis MN 55405. Students are asked to arrive 30 minutes early. Once the class has started you will not be able to enter the building.
Project Completion:By the end of this class, you will have completed a stunning shadow box setting for your enameled dragonfly, equipped with prong and tube settings. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how to create secure and visually appealing settings that enhance the beauty of your statement jewelry.
Torch: Instructor will demo using an oxy/acy torch, however a butane torch or Gentec/Smith Little torch will also work.
Materials Kit: Silver stock, pattern.

- Metal ruler 6”
- Bench block
- Rawhide mallet or Nylon mallet
- Texture hammer
- Needle files
- Square bezel pusher
- Setting burnisher set (for tube setting)
- Jewelers’ saw
- Saw blades (2/o)
- Cut lube or bees wax
- Bench pin
- Third hand
- Magnifying glasses (as needed)
- Fine tweezers
- Patina LOS
- Fiber brush for polishing
- Flex shaft
- Flex shaft bits: sanding discs, 3.1 bud bur.
- Solder pick
- Gentec, Smith Little, acetylene or propane torch.
- Soldering set up: solder board, tripod with mesh, pickle, fire tweezers, quench bowl, flux, copper tongs, silver solder paste: Hard, Medium, Easy.
*Note: You must choose either a Zoom or Zoom/Kit combo to receive written instructions. Kits will begin to ship Oct. 2, 2024, unless otherwise arranged with instructor.
