Amy Schmidt
Amy Schmidt has been creating jewelry since the early 1990s. She’s been a maker her whole life, starting out sewing with her mom and grandmother as a young child. She has had a career in the fashion industry since graduating college but has felt the pull towards working with metal since taking her first jewelry fabrication class in New Jersey. Originally from New York, she was able to take advantage of the plentiful metalsmithing classes in the area. After moving to Utah and finding a scarcity in such workshops, she opened her own studio in 2013 and has been teaching metalsmithing classes ever since. Amy’s favorite aspect of teaching is seeing the emergence and growth in students’ confidence and design skills. Her entry in the 2020 Utah Design Craft Artists’ competition, “A Ring for a New Now” won first place and is now in the permanent collection of the Brigham City Museum of Art and History in Utah. |
