Pre-requisite: Students must be familiar and comfortable with a handheld butane torch, and the standard jewellers tools.
Class Description: Not every stone we want to work with will be a comfy, uniform or calibrated shape!
Some of the most exciting pieces we create are made with the rare, the weird and wonderful elements that catch our eye and imagination. They can be crystals straight out of the ground, or even pieces you’ve carved and shaped yourself. No matter what they are, having a firm grasp on the techniques needed to set these beauties is a must.
In this class, we will look at a few different solutions to this problem and utilise one of them to set your chosen focal stone into a gorgeous finished piece.
Torch: Instructor will be demonstrating using a butane torch however, any jeweler's torch will work.
Project Completion: Students will have enough time to finish the project during the class.
Materials Kit: Enough material for one pendant (sterling silver stock). **NOTE: Students must provide their own stone, no larger than 1.5x1".

- Multi-looping pliers
- Metal hole punch 16g or 1.2mm drill bit
- Fine tweezers
- Flex shaft and bits: polishing burs, 3M bristle discs
- Brass brush
- Bench block
- Chasing hammer
- Rawhide mallet or Nylon mallet

- Square Bezel pusher
- Jewelers’ saw

- Cut lube

- Magnesia block
- Magnifying glasses (as needed)
- Sand paper: 240, 400, 600, 1000
- Super grip gloves (optional)
- Solder pick pencil
- Eraser
- Grid paper
- Glue stick
- Acetylene torch, propane torch, or butane torch
- Soldering set up: butane, torch, solder board, tripod with mesh, pickle, fire tweezers, quench bowl, flux, copper tongs, silver wire solder: hard, med, easy.
