Pre-requisite: Familiarity with metal clay, as well as experience soldering, would be helpful.

Class Description: This beautiful locket can be decorated any number of ways.  The locket has room for a photo or other small memento, held safely in place by a clever catch mechanism. Decorate your piece with a cabochon of your choice, held in place by a soldered gallery wire setting.

Project Completion: students will have time to complete the project during class time.

Materials Kit: Art clay silver 20g, SS gallery wire, template, rivets.

Required Tools and Materials:  

  • Side cutters (flush)
  • Brass brush
  • Center punch or Beadsmith riveting tool
  • Circle template
  • Bench block
  • Riveting hammer (optional)
  • Student files
  • Magnifying glasses (as needed)
  • Soldering set up includes: solder board, tripod with mesh, pickle, fire tweezers, quench bowl, flux, copper tongs, silver solder paste: Hard, Med. Easy
  • Glazed ceramic tile
  • Drying set-up such as a mug warmer, food dehydrator or kitchen oven
  • Texture mats of choice including round medallions.
  • Torch firing set up: butane torch, solder block (or the like), fire tweezers, quench bowl.
  • Liver of sulfur
  • Fine silver syringe, green tip
  • Fine silver paste
  • Cabochon of choice, oval or round.  Size will depend on your design, an oval 8x10mm or round 10mm would work well.
  • Basic metal clay set up: roller, non stick work surface, 10 playing cards or depth measuring slats, scalpel or Xacto knife, fine paintbrush, fluffy paintbrush, fine paintbrush, sanding sponges and straight salon boards (nail file) of different grits, cup of water, release agent (cool slip, olive oil), piece of saran wrap/cling film. 

*Note: Kit only and extra kit options do not include instructions or recording. You must choose either a Zoom or Zoom/Kit combo to receive written instructions. Kits will begin to ship April 3, 2024, unless otherwise arranged with instructor.
