Class Description: Express your individuality with this unique silver Tree of Life pendant. In this workshop, you'll learn essential metal clay techniques, including texturing,  mastering the use of syringe type clay, and working with fiber paper to avoid sagging designs.  You’ll also learn torch and kiln firing as well as finishing techniques. Create a one-of-a-kind pendant that symbolizes strength, growth, and the interconnectedness of life, while reflecting your own unique spirit.

Project Completion: Students will have enough time complete project during the class.

Materials Kit: Enough material for one pendant (fine silver metal clay (lump and syringe), fine silver bezel cup, fine silver embeddable bail backs, genuine gemstone or dichroic glass cabochon, fiber paper).

Required Tools:  

  • Sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Brass brush
  • Fine tweezers
  • Needle files
  • Curved burnisher
  • Square bezel pusher
  • Magnesia block
  • Soldering set up includes: solder board, fire tweezers, quench bowl, butane torch.
  • Shaped templates
  • Texture plates or wood pattern of choice
  • #4 flat (bright) paintbrush
  • Drinking straw (small/med in size)
  • Needle tool or awl or toothpick
  • Electric programmable kiln (optional)
  • Flex shaft inculding: 3m radial bristle discs in blue, peach, green (optional)
  • Rotary or magnetic tumbler with stainless steel shot (optional)
  • Patina (indicate type) LOS gel 
  • Magnifying glasses (as needed)
  • Basic metal clay set up: roller, non stick work surface, 10 playing cards or depth measuring slats, scalpel or Xacto knife, fine paintbrush, fluffy paintbrush, fine paintbrush, sanding sponges and straight salon boards (nail file) of different grits, cup of water, release agent (cool slip, olive oil), piece of saran wrap/cling film. 
  • Drying set-up such as a mug warmer, food dehydrator or kitchen oven.
  • Small spray bottle with water, preferably distilled.
  • Small dish of water with piece of sponge. (Sushi dipping dishes work well).
  • Geometric template or cookie cutters (One round, approximately 5/8” diameter; one oval, rectangle or other simple shape approximately 1 9/16” x 1 1/4”.
